Internet connectiong problems are often unrelated to problems with the server and can be fixed locally. We have listed some ways in which you can troubleshoot, if you experience an internet connection problem. If this still does not help please contact us.
- Check That Your Phone Line Is Connected
- The first check you should make if you cannot connect to the internet is to ensure the phone cable is connected to the box. If it is not connected then make sure it is properly plugged in and then dialup again.
- Is There a Dial Tone?
- If you are still experiencing trouble connecting you should check to see whether there is a dial tone. The absense of a dial tone could mean that there is a problem with the phone line, in this case should contact BT and get them to check the line.
- Can Your Phone Dial Free-Internet-UK.net?
- To ascertain whether you can connect to Free-Internet-UK.net call 0844 535 2040 using your regular telephone handset. If you hear a sharp squeeling noise then you can dial in.
- Suffering From Sporadic Disconnections?
- If your computer seems to disconnect from the internet sporadically then you may need to check that you are not running any faxing software that disconnects you to allow incoming faxes. You may also disconnect sporadically if you have settings that disconnect you when someone rings the line you are using. Also, check that you do not have your preferences set to disconnect after a period of inactivity.
